With 2FA, you also get backup codes in case your authenticator has issues. These should be stored somewhere safe and NEVER be given to anyone.

Scams

Scams on Discord most frequently occur in DMs. There are different kinds of DM scams, including:

Below, we’ll go into one we’ve recently seen more often, but here are some lists of Discord scams to look out for:

Discord Staff Impersonation

Some of the most commonly known Discord scams include unprompted DMs regarding art commissions or testing a new game someone has made.

However, one of the more tricky scams to spot include people pretending to be a member of Discord’s Support Team to gain access to your account.

Any messages from Discord will have a “SYSTEM” badge in the member list as well as next to the name in any messages, as shown in the example images from Discord below.

You will also be unable to respond to the message directly. There will instead be a message blocking chat input, as shown in the image below.

Any DM from someone saying they are Discord Staff that does not fit this standard is fake and should be reported to Discord Support.
